"In the cinema, I dissolve into all things and all beings"

What is cinema?
This question has been asked to me every Monday and Wednesday for the past 9 weeks now and still I do not know the correct answer. Cinema can be defined as an immaterial thing. As a concept or a myth or even a thought. It is not like film which is a material good that can be seen.

When speaking about cinema in today's society, people often refer to it as modern cinema but in actual fact all cinema is modern. The earliest dated cinema is around the 1920's when the Lumière brothers created the first camera and now we have moved on to the digital experiences of what we see in cinema today.

Anyway, to get to my point (up to this point I was revising my film notes) Last night I went to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1 and it was amazing. The other films I didn't really like as I always find the book better than the film, but this was beyond my expectations. The different cinematic techniques used are amazing and the use of close-up and camera shots make it exceptional.
